- what we value about our church,
- our strengths,
- our opportunities,
- our church organization, and
- what we feel most passionate about
Purpose statement. We not only say "we believe we are called to be a church where strangers become friends, friends become disciples, and disciples change the world", we try to live it and base our programs and activities and budgets on that purpose.
Relationships. I think I stay involved here because of the groups and teams and friends that I've become attached to - as much as anything.
I'll add some more later. Any response?

Great idea to start a blog! Thanks!I totally agree with relationships being a major strength. In addition, I believe other strengths we have are: our focus on young families, our committment to giving and our location/property.
I discussed strengths with one person this morning who said he thought one of our strengths was our young people - meaning our teens and twenty-somethings. This person is over 80 yrs old and pretty perceptive.
Our location and our property are probably strengths also.
Others I've heard include focus on prayer, small groups, lay leadership (as opposed to pastor-driven.
An observation made by someone outside CGPC who works with us and other churches .... CGPC is blessed with a large number of very capable lay leaders. I share that belief.
I got an email today stating that home groups was a strength for that couple.
So home groups strengthen people individually. But not everyone's in a home group. So is that a strength of CGPC?
I think yes.
It's encouraging to read about our strengths. I agree that our purpose statement and it's emphasis on mission, being used of God to change lives, is a great strength. I think our heritage is a strength. Southport Presbyterian provided us with a great foundation for health and growth. Quentin Small was used of God to help us learn to discern and follow God's will. A number of the charter members are still with us providing us a rich resource of testimony of God's faithfulness through many transitions. I have ofter heard it said that 'Our future is shaped by our past" and that puts us in the very hands of God.
